Qais Ulfat, the son of Ustad Ulfat Ahang was born in Kabul into a family of musicians. Following the incidences which occurred in Afghanistan, he moved with his family to New Delhi.
Moving to India, the sacred land of "Eastern Music" gave him an extra advantage and with the help of his father, he began singing and playing the harmonium at the early age of 5.
Having a keen interest in learning to play various instruments, he also started learning to play the Tablas from his uncle, Ustad Fazel Ahmad.
After his move to Canada, he began playing keyboards as well, performing live and arranging music for many well known Artists.
He launched his singing career officially in 2008 with his first hit single "Chashmaane Mast", followed by "Mowje Gul" in 2010 which were well received by both the Afghan public and other Artists in the industry. His singles "Shere Asheqana" in 2011 and "Dil" in 2012 were duets with a new female Artist and became super hits.
His latest work "Ashiqi" which was a collaboration with Shekeb Osmani and Ghezaal was a first of its kind and has since taken over the Afghan TV and Radio Stations in both Afghanistan and abroad.
His deep knowledge and understanding of music has given him the ability to sing in various genres, such as 'Semi Classical', 'Light Ghazal', 'Ghazal' and Pop.
Qais currently resides in Toronto, Canada and is busy working on his latest songs as well as others at Saaz Studios, where he arranges music, records and produces alongside Shekeb Osmani for many well known Artists of the Afghan music industry. His goal is to increase the quality and standards of Afghan music by blending his rich musical background with the aromas and flavours he's acquired internationally.
